However, called Omega-6 fatty acids, too much can cause inflammation and typically, a Western diet contains way too much Omega-6 yet Omega-3 seems to be neglected.

Risks

Worryingly, further research which appeared in the Journal of Molecular Biology as long ago as 2005 has linked Omega-6 to depression due to high levels of arachidonic acid.

This published research in 2005 was then further bolstered by studies from the Ohio State University 9 years later who then found that an imbalance of Omega-6 and Omega-3 showed a higher risk of arthritis, heart disease and type 2 diabetes. 
Therefore, overall people should try to cut out too much Omega-6 and consume more Omega-3.
