My Powerbeck DEVILS RUSH Pre Workout Review First Look:


So it is Tuesday, and I am already tired.

As I sat in front of my PC at home after a long day at work and after cycling a very long way home to avoid falling in to the river in the dark I am on the verge of hopping straight in to bed for an early night.

However, I wanted to destroy my back and legs today with deadlifts, in that case i decided to fight the will of my body and mind to really fuck shit up.

That didn’t stop me from feeling utterly tired though…

So, I reached for the pre workout sachets on my desk and mixed it with water in my shaker.

i hoped for the best because I am desperate to get back in to deadlifts after a break of about a month due to rugby deciding that my body should not have pain free legs at my age.

The sachet itself is massive, I could almost use it as a sleeping bag.

Due to the sheer size I am expecting great results as it also seems to contain some great headline ingredients that are known to be effective at improving performance.

Taurine – It has been touted that Taurine can help mental performance.

Early clinical research suggested that taurine, in combination with caffeine, glucuronolactone, and B vitamins, can improve attention and reasoning in adolescents, but does not improve memory.

However, there is insufficient evidence to prove this is always the case.

Caffeine – It stimulates the central nervous system (CNS), heart, muscles, and the centers that control blood pressure to give you an extra boost and hit that PB.

Caffeine Anhydrous is the purest form of caffeine so always look out for it.

This is found in 4 Gauge which is the best pre-workout.

It is also found in Instant Knockout which is the best fat burner available at present.

Beta-alanine  – Supplementation of this non essential amino acid aids the production of carnosine. That’s a compound that plays a role in muscle endurance in high-intensity exercise.

That said, studies have not exactly been positive nor entirely conclusive.

Niacinamide (Vit B3) –  Higher amounts of niacin can improve cholesterol levels and lower cardiovascular risks and maybe symptoms for Alzheimer’s . However, the jury is out on these real benefits.

L-Arginine – This is found in many pre workout supplements or products designed to make you more vascular.

L-Arginine opens up the blood vessels and arteries to assist with blood flow, nothing really to do with testosterone but may assist with any impotency issues that are not helping you attain that hot chick in the gym who is 15 years your junior.

However, you will require 5g per day alone!

L-Citrulline – This is used as a sports performance and cardiovascular health supplement. L-Citrulline supplementation results in reduced fatigue and improved endurance for both aerobic and anaerobic prolonged exercise.

An increase in growth hormone has been noted with exercise, but not at rest.

L-citrulline boosts nitric oxide production in the body. Nitric oxide helps your arteries relax and work better, which improves blood flow throughout your body.

Supplementing can help lower blood pressure in people with pre-hypertension.

This is often found in the best pre workouts.

To supplement L-citrulline to enhance sports performance, take 6,000 – 8,000 mg of citrulline malate about an hour before exercise.

Creatine – A well regarded supplement overall!

Supplementation increases creatine storage and promotes a faster regeneration of adenosine triphosphate between high intensity exercises.

These improved outcomes will increase performance and promote greater training adaptations.

Leucine – Leucine is an activator of the protein known as mTOR, which then induces muscle protein synthesis.

Dose:

15g mixed with water before training.

This compares well to many of the best pre workout supplements which will offer over 15,000mg.

The taste was a nice, sharp and a little bit sour blue raspberry which I enjoyed.

Benefits & Effects:

Caffeine is a great stimulant that can effect the CNS which controls muscle and heart stimulation.

Citrulline requires 6000mg to be effective at reducing fatigue, increasing endurance and producing more nitric oxide.

Therefore, if dosed correctly, this is a great addition to have.

Leucine and BCAA’s can help build more muscle and increase energy.

Beta-Alanine does nothing other than provide a tingling sensation which makes you think your veins are coursing with energy.

Creatine is a well renowned supplement which can help improve strength and performance.

L-Arginine opens the blood vessels which is good for transporting oxygen and getting rid of waste products. It can also help with any erection problems you may be suffering from.

However, 5000mg of Arginine alone is required to be effective.

How Did It Feel?

I felt the Caffeine which is dosed quite high at 300mg.

When I drank it, it felt tingly, sharp and a bit sour which I liked.

This got me from off my chair and woken up. This ensured I would actually hit the weights rather than having an early night.

However, that was the only benefit I felt.

There’s no evidence that Beta-Alanine can actually offer any benefit.

Taurine doesn’t have concrete evidence to prove that it is truly effective.

Niacin also has no proven benefit to lowering cardiovascular risk.

There’s a lack of other proven ingredients too which make up the best pre workout supplements.

Then the good ingredients that can offer benefit such as Citrulline, Arginine and Creatine are all way under dosed meaning we do not actually experience the benefit of these headline stars.

My Powerbeck DEVILS RUSH Pre Workout Review Conclusion:

This offers a strong daily dose and while it does contain some great proven and beneficial ingredients, they have not been dosed high enough to offer any real benefit as well as it omitting many proven ingredients that are present in many of the best pre workout supplements.

So the ingredients included that are able to increase blood flow or increase nitric oxide production are not provided in enough quantities to actually benefit our workout or performance.

Therefore, as it is missing the following ingredients and not being dosed adequately I would not suggest that this pre workout from Powerbeck is worth bothering with:

  • Coconut water
  • Potassium
  • Theanine
  • Rhodiola
  • Carnitine
  • Beet

There is a better product than this that will get you fired up and cause hell in your chosen sport.
