I have just returned home after cycling from work.

This morning was quite chilly, but fuck me dead, I am sweating like a greasy pig at the moment. I’m uncomfortably warm.

Yohimbe

Related to Yohimbine, Yohimbe is a powerful stimulant and used to increase fat loss as well as assist with erectile dysfunction.

Yohimbe can cause a host of other problems though, this is in our supplements to avoid list.

Supplementation with yohimbine combined with resistance training does not significantly alter the body mass, muscle mass, or performance indicators.

This is a soluble, fermentable, and highly viscous dietary fiber derived from the root of the elephant yam or konjac plant, which is native to Asia.

Up to two pills to be taken in 24 hours.

It is good to spread out the dose across the course of the day to ensure our body has a constant supply of ingredients to process rather than peaks and troughs.

If you get too much of certain ingredients, that what the body doesn’t need at the time will be wasted and you will not feel the benefit.

Therefore, if you have a massive dose of Magnesium for instance yet your body is still processing and utilizing Magnesium from a meal you’ve recently had it will only use what is required.

What the body doesn’t require at the time will let it pass. Thus, a higher chance of waste and less benefits.

It is better to have a continued trickle effect.

According to the retail figures, this is a big selling fat burner, and I want to establish what makes it such a success.

Well, looking at this ingredient profile there seems to be a few hints to its popularity.

So let’s look at these in more detail to see what all the fuss is about.

Green Tea is a proven ingredient that we see in all of the better fat burner supplements on the market.

Caffeine not only increase focus, energy but helps with recovery so you’re not aching as much which could put you off that extra session in the gym.

Tyrosine helps fight off fatigue and improves concentration, this way you can get off the sofa and focus on that set of squats.

Glucomannan is found in the best fat burner supplements such as Instant Knockout, for good reason.

Glucomannan is seen to promote fat loss when studied for research.

Fursultiamine is an ingredient that we do not come across very often. However, it should feature more if the science is anything to go by because it increases energy metabolism through fatigue.

So, all-in-all, five ingredients worthy of a shout for helping you lose excess fat by burning extra calories or contributing towards increased calorie expenditure.

Cons

Well, yes, there’s plenty wrong with this.

What?

Well, let us for a second remember that this supplement consists of three proprietary blends.

If you are not familiar with a proprietary blend, watch the video below of me in my old garage gym.

If you have skipped the video, a proprietary blend essentially means that although we know which ingredients are included in the supplement, we have no idea of the individual breakdown of each ingredient.

Legally, the supplement company could literally include just trace amounts per ingredient and the rest being a low cost filler.

Just to repeat that, this is completely legal.

Then there’s the ingredients that are not proven to offer any benefit. These include:

Kola has no evidence to support its use as a fat cutting ingredient.

Raspberry Ketones were made popular by a TV show which claimed that they were an effective fat loss ingredient, this was proven to be incorrect.

Yohimbe, above anything can actually be quite dangerous. It is a powerful stimulant that can raise blood pressure and even cause a stroke potentially.

To add to this, there’s no real proof that it can alter body composition.

That is a lot of risk for no guaranteed reward.

Phenylethylamine is another addition that seems rather fruitless considering there’s no scientific evidence to suggest that it can increase athletic performance or even treat the markers of depression.

Then, there’s a number of ingredients that are missing, yet are proven to be beneficial and would like to have seen included, too. 

These include:

  • Zinc
  • Magnesium
  • Green Coffee extract
  • Vitamin C
  • B vitamins
  • Cayenne
  • Synephrine

Then, let’s not forget that the daily dose is low, and the dose schedule not optimal.

Looking back over the ingredients I think it is also fair to say that there’s a 60% – 40% split of good, effective ingredients to those that are lacking.


My Highmark Nutrition Oxy Shred Fat Burner Review Conclusion

The problem with this supplement is that its the excellent components are overshadowed by those that offer no clinical proof.

There’s almost as many unproven ingredients as there are proven with 40% of the ingredients offering no benefit.

This then is coupled with a proprietary blend which conceals the exact dose per ingredient included. We are well and truly kept in the dark.

Overall, this doesn’t offer much confidence nor much in the way of performance.

Anything else worth adding to this review..?

With hidden ingredient doses, a low overall dose and almost as many unproven ingredients as those that can help us lose fat mass, I’m heading over to choose between the fat burners that offer real results.
