MuscleTech Test 3X SX-7 Black Onyx Testosterone Booster Review First Look:

MuscleTech seem to have an odd way of marketing.

The pretty much bring out a new range and call it ‘dandruff’ or something similar, Onyx, in this case and then literally offer a number of products that seem to all offer extremely similar ingredients part from a a couple which are different.

This means they effectively flood the market with every possibility of ingredient combination known to man.

Now this may be useful for some, however, I think it dilutes the brand.

I also think that from reading studies and research papers a good quality product can be produced containing 8, 9 or 10 solid ingredients with a good dose.

As seems to be the case with many MuscleTech supplements there’s many unproven or unnecessary ingredients added.

Yet, at a first glance, this may have cracked it…

Fewer ingredients are present and a couple immediately spring out as being excellent.

I am looking forward to seeing what this can really offer.


Vitamin B6 – Vitamin B6 helps testosterone levels by stimulating androgen (a steroid hormone that acts as a precursor for testosterone) receptors in your body, making your testes produce testosterone.

Folate – Being low on folate means you are unable to absorb nutrients properly from the bowel.

Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) – Studies show that people who are anaemic tend not to have high levels of testosterone because they cannot absorb vitamin B12.

Gives you more energy and boost your metabolism, helping you shed unwanted pounds. Ensure you are not deficient in Vitamin B12 so you can do that quick 10 miler at 5am…

Zinc – An aphrodisiac and Testosterone Booster.

Zinc is also very important for the functioning of the enzyme, hormone, and immune systems.

Studies demonstrate that in very high doses, zinc can act as an aromatase inhibitor and reduce estrogen levels.

It is also a potent antioxidant and can provide benefits for prostate issues.

D-Aspartate, DAA – D-aspartic acid is one of two forms of the amino acid aspartic acid. The other form is L-aspartate. The benefits of D-AA are specific to it, and do not extend to aspartic acid or L-aspartate. D-AA can be used as a testosterone booster for infertile men, and by athletes as a booster.

D-AA works in the central brain region to cause a release of hormones, such as luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and growth hormone. Importantly, unlike some pro-hormones and steroids, it does not raise estrogen levels.

A dose of 2000-3000mg is required to be effective.

The best testosterone boosters always contain DAA.

Safed Musli Extract (Chlorophytum Borivilianum) – Not a great deal of studies or evidence from studies on this ingredient is available.

What has been established is that a dose of 500mg for 12 weeks increased semen count significantly, there was a slight raise in testosterone but not by a great deal.

Boron – Boron is great for the older lifter or those doing high weight low rep work as it helps to reduce inflammation, something that is found in PrimeMale, which I am a fan of.

Also helps raise testosterone levels.

Tribulus – My only beef is that although Tribulus is touted as a wonder plant extract that helps strength gains and it was the secret drug of choice by Easten Bloc Olympic lifters in the Cold War (I think that was anabolic steroids actually judging by the women’s beards and square jawlines!)

The issue is that it has not been scientifically proven to raise testosterone levels in any shape or form.

In fact, in studies using elite professional Australian rugby players as participants Tribulus did not produce the large gains in strength or lean muscle mass that many manufacturers claim can be experienced.

Avoid like a medieval plague if you are looking for muscular gainz.

Ashwagandha (Withania Somnifera) – Studies have shown that treatment with Ashwagandha root extract resulted in a higher level of testosterone and a concomitant increase in serum levels of LH among infertile men having sub-optimal testosterone levels.

It’s difficult to see if the same result would be found with guys who do not have any fertility issues. So the question is, are you infertile?

If you’ve been banging your missus (or even your mistress, we shouldn’t be even talking if you have smashed your sister) unprotected and have miraculously not had a sprog you probably are infertile…sorry to break that to you, bro.

However, you are probably in look because only 12% of men throughout the whole world are infertile, and even then, that is a generous estimate by the World Health Authority.

Olive – Olive oil is widely used in many foods and its ability, like avocado, to reduce the bad (LDL) cholesterol is fairly well known. These are great to have in your diet.

While implicated in various fat burning effects (increased thyroid hormones and adrenaline) there does not appear to be any overall fat lost in trials.

Yacon Root – Yacon may have benefits for intestinal health and may reduce appetite, but studies on it are limited.


4 capsules per day which is an optimal amount. However, it is suggested all 4 are taken at once.

We would recommend that you have 4 tablets spread evenly across the day, as per the best testosterone booster on the market.

This way your body has a constant trickle of the ingredients to work with in order to stimulate testosterone.

With a daily dose of 7095.201mg you have an excellent amount for your body to work with.

Effects & Benefits:

There are some excellent ingredients here which are so often only found in the best testosterone boosters.

D-Aspartic Acid, Zinc, B6 and often B12 are the cornerstone of a good testosterone booster which can elevate it from mediocre to good. These are key ingredients and should always be looked for.

Boron is another excellent addition and found in Prime Male which I saw great results with. Boron can raise test levels but also reduce inflammation.

Too much inflammation can cause a hormone imbalance plus enable chronic disease such as obesity set it.

Folate prevents loss of nutrients from the bowel which ensures there as little wasted as possible.

Safed appears to minimally increase testosterone levels, however, little is better than nothing.

Ashwagandha seems to offer no benefit unless you are one of the 12% that is infertile.


I am surprised to see the omission of Magnesium; Magnesium is the very foundations of a testosterone booster along with B6 and Zinc, this is known as a ZMA supplement.

It would also have been good to replace Tribulus, Yacon and Olive with ingredients that actually known to increase testosterone levels and have studies to prove this with ingredients such as:

  • Magnesium
  • Ginseng
  • K2
  • D3
  • Oyster

While I can see some benefit in Ashwagandha if you are infertile, it does limit its audience. There’s other ingredients that will increase test levels whether you are infertile or not.

It is also odd to see some of the doses of each ingredient included as well…

We are given over 3000mg of B6 which is great, that is a huge amount, insanely huge. However, we are then dosed 0.001mg of B12.

Plus, Olive and Yakon, while they may have their benefits, they’re more suited to a fat burner rather than a testosterone booster.

So what do we have with this testosterone booster from MuscleTech?

Well for once, there’s a lack of an array of mind boggling ingredients. It seems they have cut this down to concentrate on just increasing testosterone.

Or have they..?

There’s 5 excellent and proven ingredients that will help stimulate testosterone production. However, that is from a combined total of 11!

That less than 50% of the ingredients that will help gain more muscle, strength and raise libido.

There’s also a good number of additional ingredients that could have been included and obvious flaws with the inclusion of Tribulus that should not be present in a product from such a large company.

While we are offered a large daily dose and a goo number of capsules we are then instructed to take them at once, whereas it is more beneficial to drip feed your body throughout the day.

As a result it seems like a half assed effort.
