Snickers High Protein Shake Drink Review

Maxinutrition (formally Maximuscle) shook things up initially by offering a ready to drink (RTD) milkshake that contained a high amount of protein (30g) and unlike the whey protein shakes you blend in a shaker these were and are just like a normal milk shake you would buy from a store, there’s no grittiness and they taste pretty darn good.

In their wake many other companies have an offering be it the Actimilk which we love due to its low cost, great taste and 26g of protein or the much more nutritional offering from Goodness Shakes which are expensive, lack protein and don’t taste great.

We reported recently that Nestle had started to re-brand and re-position themselves in the market place as a company that didn’t just sell confectionery but to become a ‘nutrition health and wellness company’, well it looks like Mars are also looking to capitalize on the burgeoning health and wellness scene too with the introduction of a Snickers milk shake that is high in protein.

First Look:

It looks just like any Snickers milkshake, the branding is instantly recognizable and anyone who loves candy and snickers in particular are going to be drawn to something that tastes so good and is good for you, well, good for you as in there’s 22g of protein in it.

Protein is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood. Along with fat and carbohydrates, protein is a “macronutrient,” meaning that the body needs relatively large amounts of it.

We have protein sourced from milk whey in this product, you  can read more about the properties of milk protein:

Each bottle is 376ml and should be taken immediately after sport or exercise, however, you can drink it when ever you like as a convenient hit of protein. Each bottle contains 22g of protein which is as much as 100g of black beans, but I can tell you which one I would rather have on the fly.

I had just hit a loads of weights and did some deadlifts today which I haven’t really done for a month, usually I will rustle up an all-in-one protein shake but they can make me feel really full and bloated so I decided this maybe a lighter option to try. It just felt like I was drinking water and didn’t give me a nice feeling of fullness or satisfaction.

What I also found disappointing was the taste, it wasn’t unpleasant but you can barely get a hint of peanut. Additionally for the size of the drink 22g of protein is pretty woeful.

My Review Conclusion:

It’s okay, just okay. The taste isn’t really what I was hoping for considering it is a Snickers flavored drink and it just didn’t seem to make me feel full at all that combined with the lowish protein count means that if you fancy something a bit different or in a grocery store these are sure to be everywhere. If you like the taste of milk though, you would be best buying a bottle of fat free milk, it will be a lot cheaper and better for you.

It’ll do.
