Rugby League: A Further Doping Ban – Hunslet Hawks In The Spotlight
English Rugby League In The Spotlight For Doping, Again.
Another week and another four year ban, this time for a Lee Mapals who plays for Hunslet Hawks.
Mapals was given the four year ban after testing positive for anabolic steroids. In an ever competitive sport with very few reaching the pinnacle of the game many are wrongly turning to steroids to give them an edge.
An out of competition test was conducted on the 31 year old who plays in the Kingstone Press League 1 Club, Maplas tested positive for nandrolone as well as oxymetholone.
Maplas has had a long and varied career playing for many established and well regarded clubs, this four year ban will last until 2020 – effectively ending his professional career.
This positive test is a serious breach of the anti-doping rules which is becoming all too common in the sport.
The UKAD director released a statement expressing his disgust over the breach saying he “…chose to cheat his team-mates, his opposition, his fans and his sport…”
