Link Between Testosterone Therapy And Cardiovascular Risk Tenuous
The perceived increased risk of cardiovascular disease for those who are on testosterone therapy appears not to be conclusive.
However, it can increase the risk for obstructive sleep apnea which is a potentially serious sleep disorder. It causes breathing to repeatedly stop and start during sleep due to your throat muscles relaxing which blocks your airway.
The new findings suggest that those who are on testosterone therapy have a lower risk of cardiovascular issues compared to men who were not on therapy according the study which was carried out by Ruhr University, Germany.

One thing to be noted from the study was that before testosterone therapy is prescribed by a physician they should be made aware of obstructive sleep apnea.
In the past, any studies regarding cardiovascular health once testosterone therapy had been prescribed were obtained through the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Medicare database, however, data is limited to older people.
In this study the TRICARE American military insurance database was utilized in order to get a better understanding of the risks associated with testosterone therapy in a younger population profile.
The research team looked for men free of any history of heart disease, prostate cancer or obstructive sleep apnea.
The study then consisted of 3422 men who were prescribed testosterone therapy and 3422 men who were not users of testosterone therapy.
The results of the study show that the testosterone therapy group showed a better rate of being free from cardiovascular health issues than the control group. This also included risks for coronary heart disease.
This quashes any fear of risk behind using testosterone therapy.
