Fish Oil Benefits Exposed // Who Knew This?
Like the apparent sudden rise in popularity for coconut oil, fish oil seems to have a beneficial effect for almost everything.
Studies conducted by the universities of both Aberdeen and Glasgow in the UK attest these claims and say that fish oil supplements can also improve women’s quality of life in to old age.
This level of research highlighted that Omega 3 supplementation could increase muscle function for older ladies which can improve later life independence while preventing unnecessary falls which can lead to injury and lengthy hospital stays.
An 18-week research program was carried out including a resistance weight training plan with the participants’ muscle size, function and quality measured before and after the 18 weeks.
What is interesting, is that the results showed that men who took 3g of fish oil did not experience any further muscular size, quality nor function. However, after the 18 weeks’ women who took 3g of fish oil did see an increase in muscle function, however, it was limited to just function with no additional size being recorded.
These results can massively increase the quality of life in women who tend to live a further 4 years more than men yet cross a disability threshold whereby they lose muscular function 10 years earlier and as a result it can inhibit their quality of life and independence more so than men who do not suffer from the same level of muscular atrophy.
