With the increasing size of players since Union’s transgression from an amateur sport to the professional era, it seems that the gentleman’s game has a filthy, sordid secret. Steroids have a grip on the players who know that sheer size can be the difference between stardom and playing in the lower tiers.
It was during the 1995 Rugby World Cup when the behemoth Jonah Lomu shot to stardom – his colossal size, speed, fitness levels and weight made him unstoppable, and the world took note.
