First Look:

I am not sure what it is about this product but I do not find the bottle or label offensive in anyway. I normally dislike dark packaging which tries to tap in to your underground, hardcore, Rocky esq-style gym subconsciousness.

This is fine though, fairly simple and clear so you know what it is and what it should do.

untitled

This is a hell of a lot of ingredients…and a proprietary blend.

Vitamin B6 – Using it in its most natural form, pyridoxine, B6 is an essential nutrient to raising the body’s metabolism and aiding the fat burning process.

https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/VitaminB6-HealthProfessional/

Vitamin B12 – B12 fights fatigue, muscle wastage, boosts mood, cognition and is vital to many bodily functions including metabolism and food digestion. So to put it bluntly, we need this for smooth operation and be able to smash those workout sessions which in turn helps you burn fat and lose those unwanted pounds.

Evodia Extract – Plenty of claims behind this herbal medicine but there’s a lack of evidence actually proving it works.

http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-1159-evodia.aspx?activeingredientid=1159&activeingredientname=evodia

Yohimbe – Related to Yohimbine, Yohimbe is a powerful stimulant and used to increase fat loss as well as assist with erectile dysfunction. Can cause a host of other problems though, this is in out supplements to avoid list.

Lotus Leaf – Data demonstrates that a combination of lotus leaf extract and L-carnitine reduced triglyceride (the main constituent of body fat) accumulation in humans. Therefore, this combination might represent a treatment option for obesity-related diseases.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2922297/

Beta-Phenethylamine – Linked to dopamine which makes you feel happy. However, as a supplement it is pretty worthless as it is broken down rapidly into inactive components.

https://examine.com/supplements/phenylethylamine/

Phyllanthus Emblica (Officinalis) – There is not enough evidence to recommend Emblica for any particular purpose, it appears to possess a wide spectrum of potential benefits that require further research and may contribute to general well being and longevity.

https://examine.com/supplements/emblica-officinalis/

Caffeine Anhydrous – The purest form of caffeine available.  It stimulates the central nervous system (CNS), heart, muscles, and the centers that control blood pressure to give you an extra boost and hit that PB. This is found in Instant Knockout which is the best fat burner available at present.

http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-979-caffeine.aspx?activeingredientid=979

Bitter Orange (Citrus Aurantium) – At present, Citrus aurantium may be the best thermogenic substitute for ephedra. However, more studies are needed to establish this definitively.

Bitter orange is possibly unsafe when taken as a supplement for a medical purpose such as weight loss. Bitter orange, particularly when taken with stimulants such as caffeine or caffeine-containing herbs, increases the risk for high blood pressure, fainting, heart attack, stroke, and other severe side effects.
There are reports that bitter orange can trigger headaches, including migraine and cluster headaches, in some people.

Bitter orange can cause sensitivity to the sun. Wear sunblock outside, especially if you are light-skinned.

Choline Bitartrate – Taking choline by mouth does not seem to improve athletic performance or lessen fatigue during exercise.

http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-436-choline.aspx?activeingredientid=436&

Alpha-GPC – Appears to have cognitive-enhancing properties but there’s no human evidence exists to support this in otherwise-healthy youth, yet it does have support in rodents. In regards to reducing the rate of cognitive decline, at high doses (1,200 mg) does appear to be somewhat effective in mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease.

https://examine.com/supplements/alpha-gpc/

Dimethylaminoethanol DMAE – This compound can help with cognitive impairment, however, results from studies are a bit patchy. The Bitrate part is just how it is produced to use as a supplement, usually found as a white powder. This is not classified for use as a food additive in the USA. Has been marketed as DEANOL.

Ginkgo – This appears to help with blood flow and circulation, however, there is no real body of evidence to support these claims.

http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-333-ginkgo.aspx?activeingredientid=333

Phosphatidylserine – Supplementation could improve the memory functions of the elderly with memory complaints.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2966935/

Rhodiola rosea – Can protect against cognitive deficits, neuronal injury and oxidative stress, can also be used as a potential agent in treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. This is found in our favorite Nootropic.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19950527_wp_link_placeholder

Licorice – May have many various uses, the main being to sooth heartburn and inflamed skin, but for the rest there’s really a lack of evidence to deem it useful. Found in testosterone boosters but not any fat burners as of yet.

http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-881-licorice.aspx?activeingredientid=881

Rubus Fruticosus (Blackberry) – It has a lot of medicine use. Various blackberry plants are useful in the treatment of cancer, dysentery, diarrhea, whopping cough, colitis, toothache, anemia, psoriasis, sore throat, mouth ulcer, mouthwash, hemorrhoids, and minor bleeding.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4127818/

Dandelion – There’s many uses for dandelion, however, there’s no real evidence to suggest it works for any of them.

http://umm.edu/health/medical/altmed/herb/dandelion

Uva Ursi – Helps reduce inflammation and fight infection. However, it can be liver toxic, do not take for more than 5 days at a time. Can also have a bad reaction with any citrus.

http://umm.edu/health/medical/altmed/herb/uva-ursi

Guggul – Traditionally used to fight obesity and it doesn’t work.

http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-1124-cha%20de%20bugre.aspxactiveingredientid=1124&activeingredientname=cha%20de%20bugre

Parsley – Many supposed uses, no evidence that it is any good.

http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-792-parsley.aspx?activeIngredientId=792&activeIngredientName=parsley

Ashwaganda – Studies have shown that treatment with Ashwagandha root extract resulted in a higher level of testosterone and a concomitant increase in serum levels of LH among infertile men having sub-optimal testosterone levels. It’s difficult to see if the same result would be found with guys who do not have any fertility issues. So the question is, are you infertile? If you’ve been banging your missus (or even your mistress, we shouldn’t be even talking if you have smashed your sister) unprotected and have miraculously not had a sprog you probably are infertile…sorry to break that to you, bro.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3863556/

Cordyceps – Evidence on tested rats to suggest this is a testosterone regulator rather than provide increases, however, only when injected as it has poor bio-availability.

https://examine.com/supplements/cordyceps/

Holy Basil – Traditionally used as a Testosterone Booster, although no direct evidence exists in humans for this. It has also been demonstrated to hinder reproductive capacity.

https://examine.com/supplements/holy-basil/

Black Pepper Extract – Black Pepper is a source of piperine, a molecule that does not do much on its own but can inhibit enzymes that would attack other molecules. Due to this, it is ingested alongside some supplements to increase their absorption rates.

https://examine.com/supplements/black-pepper/

Dose:

There is a 1 pill per day recommended dose. We prefer 4 pills spread across the day to evenly spread the nutrients out and prevent massive peaks and troughs. 4 pills are the doses of our benchmark products. There’s a very low 707.075mg daily serving here.

Effects:

There are a staggering amount of ingredients here yet on 6 are effective at doing anything, that is shocking.

So we have the obligatory B6 and B12, albeit at low doses.

Caffeine in its purest form as we have here is a great addition and found in the best fat burners around which you can read more about here.

Then we have Phosphatidylserine and Rhodiola which are both proven nootropic ingredients used to assist with cognitive function and health.

Black pepper is used to increase the absorption of all of the ingredients.

Apart from these few, we are left with many that have no reliable research and proof behind them to ensure they are effective.

-Take a look at the Top 3 FAT BURNERS which I use for effectiveness-

Negatives:

Apart from an astonishing number of ingredients that have no proof of their use and benefits, there are a number of concerns that I feel should be raised.

Firstly we have Citrus Aurantium which can cause a wealth of issues when used with stimulants such as Caffeine, and we have the purest form of Caffeine included.

Yohimbe is another ingredient with the potential to cause trouble.

Lotus will only really work is dosed with L-carnitine which is strangely absent.

Uva Ursi is liver toxic and can have a bad reaction when combined with citrus!

To top it all off there is a ridiculously low daily dose and a terrible dosing recommendation of just one pill per day. I would quadruple it!

It s also a proprietary blend as well…bad times.

Conclusion:

SirenLabs’ Neuro Lean will not be winning any awards any time soon.

I am unsure why a supplement company would fill their product with so many ingredients that have patchy/inconclusive results from research and tests at best.

This product is completely ineffective and a waste of your money.

It is not difficult to find ingredients with a wide range of research driven tests and proof of effectiveness and then combining them in the correct doses while not putting in ingredients that are likely to have a negative reaction with each other.

You could even cheat by looking at already tried and tested nootropics and fat burners.

Yet, this product systematically fails on almost every level.

Well, it could be successful at causing a stroke or heart attack.
