REPP Sports Raze Fat Burner Review
REPP Sports Raze Fat Burner Review
First Look
We by fat burner supplements to enhance and further our efforts in the gym, or whatever sporting pursuit that you choose.
However, fat burner supplements do not work miracles. You cannot sit down all day and everyday gorging on ice cream with soda and think that taking a fat burner pill will cancel it all out.
No, it won’t cancel it out, but will help you achieve your goals when combined with a fitness regime.
I still lift weights, I still play rugby but I don’t have much time to get some proper cardio in.
It’s not just the fat loss that I enjoy from a daily spirited cardio session, it is also the feeling that I can run up a flight of stairs without fear of collapsing.
I actually think I manged a full 80 minutes on the rugby field by pre workout and adrenaline alone.
So, without further adieu, let’s look at this fat burner from REPP which may help with your weight management goals, but it will not necessarily stop you gasping for your last breath running away from your neighbors dog.
This is very bright and bold, just like its testosterone booster stable mate.
There’s a bit of a corporate look going on which can either add confidence in a brand or just confuse people.
TL:DR – Video Review
Who are REPP?
REPP seem to put a bit of a tongue in cheek and fun spin on supplements.
Their website is bold and colorful, their mission is to push the boundaries of natural genetics and they have been bench pressing stars since being children.
‘…Our mission is to transcend the genetic limitations of nature…’
REPP say that their supplements contain lab tested ingredients rather than just some weirdly named plant.
Sounds promising…
What Does Raze do?
REPP claim that this is one of the strongest thermogenic products available that does not contain ephedra.
As a result this product is supposed to give us improved focus and mental clarity plus be able to target fat cells by increasing the metabolism immediately.
If the results are as dramatic as the marketing, this could be a great option.
Ingredients: Make or Break
2-AMINOISOHEPTANE DMHA Octodrine
This was initially developed as a nasal decongestant decades ago. Now it appears in lots of products like this one because it stimulates the central nervous system.
The problem is that it is not regulated and some side effects include increased blood pressure and hypothermia.
Above all, it is not proven to posses any anti-obesity or real fat burning effects. [1]
Vitamin B12
B12 is a vitamin that can help provide an increase of energy levels, improve your metabolism and fight fatigue.
But, even better, research in to the effects of B12 show that it can be used to treat cellulite. [2]
Vitamin B6
B12 isn’t the only B vitamin that can help increase metabolism and reduce fat mass. B6 is also a worthy and important inclusion.
Being water soluble your body cannot store it so you must include it within your diet.
B6 has many roles which include red blood cell production and processing energy from the foods that you eat.
A study conducted found that those who were fed a diet of fortified foods with high levels of B6 saw a positive reduction of fat mass. [3]
Hordenine
When you conduct a web search for an ingredients and there’s more search results from pages that are not scientific sources you always know that something is not quite right.
Hordenine is being touted as a powerful fat burner. However, there’s very little evidence or research available to suggest that quite as strongly as some of these sites are proclaiming.
It just happens so that these sites are also selling products containing hordenine.
If you are an athlete that is subject to drug testing high doses of hordenine can actually make you test positive for morphine which could lead to suspension or a ban.
Tread very carefully with this. [4]
Bitter Orange (Citrus Aurantium)
Let’s start of with a word of warning regarding bitter orange.
It can cause a number of health issues such as headaches, high blood pressure and potentially cause a stroke.
That said, if you are willing to risk these side effects it can work particularly well with caffeine in doses of 30-60mg daily.
These doses have provided an increase in the metabolic rate, but the thermogenic activity has only been proven in one study which used just female participants. [5] [6] [7]
Capsicum (Cayenne)
The hot pepper has been proven to increase body temperature that in turn yields an increase in energy expenditure by regulating your temperature.
However, it can also fight inflammation and there’s studies that elude that it has cancer preventative properties, too.
This is found in our favorite fat burner Instant Knockout. [8]
L-Tyrosine
Tyrosine is often found in fat burner supplements and also nootropics and at best this may reduce stress and increase feelings of wakefulness.
However, there’s such a lack of concrete evidence or thorough research yielding any positive results that much of this is anecdotal. [9]
Caffeine
This widely used stimulant offers everything from increased focus, improved muscle recovery and has thermogenic properties that contribute to extra calorie burn.
To put it bluntly, if you want to cut fat, ensure that caffeine is utilised. [10]
L-Dopa Velvet Bean (Macuna Pruriens)
Mucuna pruriens is usually in the spotlight because it can help lower estrogen and increase testosterone, let’s not also forget that it can be used to treat snake bites!
So, it can be used to treat or improve a number of physiological areas of health, but in terms of fat burning it does not seem to possess much benefit. [11]
Choline BiTartrate
The anecdotal reports claim that choline bi-tartrate can reduce fatty liver build up. It may also work as an effective cognitive booster but only in doses of between 250-500mg.
There’s no supporting evidence that would suggest that choline bitartrate can improve fat burn, or improve your physical performance. [12]
BioPerine (Piper nigrum)
Bioperine does not have any effect on the body as such. It’s benefits are by helping other nutrients be absorbed easier and thus they can be better utilised. [13]
Huperzine-A
Without going in to a huge amount of detail as to how huperzine-a works, it can increase the levels of an enzyme called acetylcholine which helps with learning and muscle contractions.
Only a small dose of between 50-200mcg is required daily for best results. [14]
Yohimbe
Yohimbe’s best effects are when it is taken between meals, but yohimbe can cause extreme anxiety in some people.
There’s also some concern regarding cardiovascular health, as a result it is important to ensure the dose is correct for your body weight if you want to get the fat burning benefits while minimising any risk.
As such, is you weight around 200lbs a dose of 18mg should be safe.
Another problem with yohimbe supplements is that the actual dose can vary massively compared to what is listed on the ingredients panel. [15] [16] [17]
Dose
We are instructed, damn it, no, we are warned not to take more than 2 capsules per day due to the strength of this fat burner.
However, we are only offered 1416.06mg per day max!
That is lower than your grans tits! (I warn you not to google search saggy gran tits…)
Pros
Cayenne and Caffeine is found in Instant Knockout, which is our favorite fat burner.
Both are effective and proven ingredients to help stimulate fat burn.
It is also good to see the B vitamins which help extract energy from food, fight fatigue and muscle wastage among many other benefits.
Mucuna is a useful addition as it can help alleviate stress and inflammation.
Stress and inflammation can assist the development of chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes, so anything to help ward off this is great.
Choline and Huperzine can help with cognitive function and focus.
Yohimbe and citrus aurantium both have fat burning effects but they can be dangerous, so caution must be used when this is taken.
Cons
Citrus Aurantium is deemed potentially unsafe especially when supplemented with Caffeine which this has.
It is also the same story for Yohimbe which can cause a heart attack in extreme cases, so make sure you know what dose you can use safely.
Choline, while it has uses cannot offer any performance based benefits other than what has been anecdotally reported.
Tyrosine is much the same, it is widely used but with little hard evidence proving its supposed benefits.
Hordenine and DMHA seem to have a real lack of evidence backing their supposed uses with hordenine being able to have a negative effect on doping tests.
This is a proprietary blend which conceals the exact ingredient breakdown. We just do not know the exact amount of each ingredient, this could mostly consist of a bulking agent.
However, it is also important to know exactly how much of some of the ingredients are for safety.
It is worth avoiding any product that will not stipulate exactly how much of each ingredient is included.
The overall dose is low as well compared to other fat burners which offer around 50% more in terms of mass.
REPP Sports Raze Fat Burner Review Conclusion
There are some real flaws with this product, which include real risks.
- Proprietary blend
- Potentially dangerous ingredients
- Low dose
- Anecdotal evidence
That said, we have great additions too which while not all entirely committed to direct fat burn, can help in other ways.
So it is not all bad, but the risk of both Yohimbe and Citrus Aurantium is very real and off putting.
8 of 13 ingredients offering some use and overall benefit is much better than most, it is just a shame the overall dose is so low and there’s a proprietary blend.
If it ditched the Yohimbe and Citrus and instead included Green Tea and Zinc this product would be on the right track.
