There comes a time when you realize that your training has been neglected for whatever reason, be it work, family or even injuries and then there’s a trigger event which ensures you take action. This trigger is a bucks vacation to Ibiza in less than 2 months and I have been pissing and moaning about an injury that hasn’t let me fully train for what seems like 5 months. As a result I am not in my usual shape and much of my strength has diminished, this is upsetting so I am looking for something to stack with this months bottle of TestoFuel. My normal fat burner of choice is Instant Knockout which has reigned champion for a while, so I am eager to find an alternative product out there that can match it or better it – and in time for this vacation.

First Look

Very bright and straightforward. This is in a powder form as opposed to tablets which I can find being a bit inconvenient. It’s one thing taking tablets on a plane but a funny tub of powder another! Either way, we are promised lots of greatness from this product and I am eager to find out more of what the 13 ingredients can do for me.

So, a monstrous 13 ingredients which make up 6130mg per serving, that’s almost perverse!

Conjugated Linolenic Acid (CLA) – Initial reports and studies have showed that CLA helped a bunch of women who did no exercise lose 9% body fat. But further studies are showing very mixed, if not medicore results that aren’t really setting the world alight, in fact the side effects are having their presence felt moreso outweighing any real benefits. Any benefits that were found meant that the composition had to be greater than 80% – this doesn’t make the composition available.

L-carnitine – Acetyl-L-carnitine helps the body produce energy. It is important for heart and brain function, muscle movement, and many other body processes. It is a very popular supplement and widely proven to be active drugs for the therapy of symptoms associated with male aging. Any fat loss tends to be associated with the extra energy provided by this compound which in turn increases exercise.

Lotus Leaf – Data demonstrates that a combination of lotus leaf extract and L-carnitine reduced triglyceride (the main constituent of body fat) accumulation in humans. Therefore, this combination might represent a treatment option for obesity-related diseases.

Green Tea – Clinical studies suggest that green tea extract may boost metabolism and help burn fat. One study found that the combination of green tea and caffeine improved weight loss and maintenance in people who were overweight and moderately obese. Some researchers think that substances in green tea known as catechins are responsible for the herb’s fat-burning effect.

L-Taurine – Studies suggest that taurine can help with blood flow and increase energy for longer exercise for those with heart conditions, however, nothing really for fat burning.

African Mango (Irvingia gabonensis)– There are a few research studies on the health effects of IG extracts, and most have been sponsored by supplement makers, make of that what you will… This is found in EVLNutrition Lean Mode but that didn’t score very well with us.

Horse Tail Extract – Don’t worry, this isn’t from an actual horse, it is a plant and has been used for many ailments and treatments for many years including weight loss, however, there’s insufficient evidence to back this up.

Caffeine – This can assist with endurance, tested athletes saw an edge from caffeine in scientific studies. In some trials, the stimulant boosted athletes’ speed. In others, it helped them last longer before they spent all their energy.  Caffeine also raises the metabolism which means you burn more calories. Some studies show that it can curb soreness after exercise, too. This means you could get back to your training sooner and training means more calories burnt. This is present in all 3 of our Top Fat Burners.

C. Canephora Robusta (Green Coffee Extract) – Evidence from research has indicated that the consumption of caffeinated coffee can lead to some reductions in long-term weight gain, an effect which is likely to be due to the known thermogenic effects of caffeine intake.

Rasberry Ketone – Although this was promoted as a ‘miracle fat burner’ on a popular yet controversial TV show there is actually no evidence to support these claims.

Dandelion – There’s many uses for dandelion, however, there’s no real evidence to suggest it works for any of them.

Higenamine – Data shows an increase in energy expenditure and kilocalorie expenditure. It also results in a moderate increase in heart rate and systolic blood pressure similar to caffeine.

Synephrine – This increases fat oxidation rate whilst reducing carbohydrate oxidation rate during low to moderate exercise.

Dose

One scoop per day. We would rather have a smaller doses spread throughout the day and this is where tablets come in to their own. Having a huge dose once during the day spikes massively then you are not being fed any of the nutrients and compounds to effectively stimulate fat burn.

Effects

So, from that massive hit in excess of 6000mg per day only 6 of the 13 ingredients actually help toward stimulating fat burn or increase energy levels to help you burn more calories. This equates to only 3080mg per day of active and proven ingredients which is a bit of a shock and makes me wonder why they have even bothered with the other 50% of ingredients. Additionally, they could have lowered a couple of the doses and added even more ingredients that are proven to work in order to produce a full rounded product.

Negatives

There are a few areas that need to be improved. There is a current trend for fat burners now being presented as a powder like a pre-workout. Not only does it make the product less convenient it also adds unnecessary sweeteners and artificial flavorings. It also means you have one big hit and then a deep, low plateau. I also feel that the 6000mg dose is absurdly high and the content could have been utilized more wisely as there’s too many ingredients (over half) that have no or little relation to fat burning.

Review Conclusion

There’s too many wide cracks here which prevents it from being a constituted fat burner, I do think there’s some clever ingredients, however, the development of the product has been halted with the inclusion of ridiculous ingredients, so where they have made 2 steps forward it’s knocked back 3. There’s a real missed opportunity here for a potentially excellent product.
