Reasons To Take Fish Oil Supplement

If you have thus far overlooked fish oil, you shouldn’t. The Omega-3 fats can help with improved bone health as well as reducing the risk of a plethora of other diseases, it may also help with metabolizing fat.

Not many people eat enough oily fish, so it is a good idea to start using a supplement, this is especially true if you are lifting as it can help with inflammation.

What is it?

Fish oil supplements are rich in omega-3 fatty acids including EPA and DHA, which are actually taken from algae. Omega-3s are important in everything from cardiovascular function to preventing neurodegenerative decline in old age.

What should you look for?

You may not think there is much difference between fish oil supplements but there is, avoid cod liver oil and other’s containing trans fats as these are not thoroughly beneficial.

You need to find one that has a good ratio of omega-3 to 6, you should also try and find a product that uses the oil from a smaller fish such as herring or mackerel as these contain less toxins such as mercury.

How to take it

Do not do what I did as a child and mistook them for sweets/candy and eat a shit load of oil capsules because it will only make you sick and leave you with horrendous breath. Some say a spoonful of oil is more beneficial than capsules but realistically there is little difference. Always take with food to minimize the fishy burps.
