Testosterone Booster With Anavar (Oxandrolone)

What is Anavar and can you take it with a test booster?

Anavar which is sometimes called Oxandrolone or referred to as its chemical name, 17β-hydroxy-17α-methyl-2-oxa-5α-androstane-3-one is an anabolic steroid.

I have tried Anavar before and it came in pill format to be taken orally.

It was quite expensive, especially compared to other anabolic steroids that were available to buy at the time.

However, this is seen as one of the milder steroids which limits, or at least minimizes the health risks.

[Bonkovsky HL, Fiellin DA, Slaker DP, et al. A randomized, controlled trial of treatment of alcoholic hepatitis with parenteral nutrition and oxandrolone. I: short-term effects on liver function. Am J Gastroenterol 1991; 86(9): 1200–8]

You can read more about my experience of Anavar, here.

Tell me more about Anavar…

Anavar as already mentioned is an anabolic steroid, in medical fields it is used to help patients’ recovery after surgery or to treat medical conditions whereby they need to increase body weight, this also includes increasing bone density.

[Basaria S, Wahlstrom JT, Dobs AS. Anabolic-androgenic steroid therapy in the treatment of chronic disease. J Clin Endocrinol Metab 2001; 86(11): 5108–17]

This is a mild synthetic steroid with mild androgenic and anobolic properties.

The risk of any serious side effects is minimal, hence why it is quite a popular drug for people in to fitness.

It is also used as a testosterone replacement therapy for men who are suffering from abnormally low testosterone, known as Hypogonadism.

It is also used for people suffering from HIV because it has an ability to increase fat free muscle mass.

[Demling RH, DeSanti L. Oxandrolone, an anabolic steroid, significantly increases the rate of weight gain in the recovery phase after major burns. J Trauma 1997; 43(1): 47–51]

Trials using Oxandrolone have demonstrated positive results by increasing muscle function, strength and size after severe injury or trauma.

[Sheffield-Moore M, Urban R, Wolf SE, et al. Short-term oxandrolone administration stimulates net muscle protein synthesis in young men. J Clin Endocrinol Metab 1999; 84(8): 2705–11]

Which is down to the enhancement of muscle protein synthesis efficiency.

Unlike most oral steroids, Anavar seems resistant to being metabolized by the liver while offering an increased level of anabolic results.

Due to its properties and performance, Anavar is the only anabolic androgenic steroid that is US FDA-approved for restitution of weight loss after severe trauma, major surgery or infections, malnutrition due to alcoholic cirrhosis, and Duchenne’s or Becker’s muscular dystrophy.

In studies treating burns patients with Anavar is was reported that there were no adverse effects reported.

Liver function or health was no different between patients being treated with Anavar and those without, nor did liver function deteriorate thereafter.

Furthermore, there wasn’t any other ‘androgenic’ side effects such as increased hair, deepening of the voice or any development of male characteristics.

This is why it is popular with women who are looking to increase their physical performance.

Nor was there any evidence of blood poisoning.

While the evidence does strongly suggest that Anavar treatment is safe, it is also cheap compared to a comparable anabolic dose of recombinant human growth hormone.

[Demling RH. Comparison of the anabolic effects and complications of human growth hormone and the testosterone analog, oxandrolone, after severe burn injury. Burns 1999; 25: 215–221.]

Further studies in to the steroid show that by taking Oxandrolone with caffeine increases its bioavailabilty and uptake quite dramatically.

As a result, if you are to take it, stack it with 300mg of caffeine for best results.

[Salema, J. Ruivo, X. de la Torre, M. Sekera1, L. Horta. Oxandrolone excretion: effect of caffeine dosing. Published: www.adop.pt.]

So can you take Anavar with a T-Booster supplement?

With all of these benefits, it would seem crazy that you would want to stack Anavar with a natural test booster.

Yes and No….mainly no.

The studies do confirm that Anavar is a safe and reliable way to increase androgenic effects which can help increase fat free muscle mass.

[ Fox M, Minor A, et al. Oxandrolone: a potent anabolic steroid. J Clin Endocrin Metab 1962; 22: 921–923.]

So why would you bother stacking it with a natural testosterone booster?

Let’s first look at the benefits of a natural T booster…

A natural testosterone booster helps increase and restore your natural levels of T.

These supplements are very different to anabolic steroids or prohormones, you can read a bit more about my experiences, here.

Now, we could go in to significant depth about the differences between natural testosterone boosters, however, let’s keep it short and succinct so you get the basics and then you will have a greater understanding of how each work differently.

A natural test booster comprises a number of vitamins and minerals that can increase your natural testosterone production.

For example, if you do not fuel your body with enough food to build muscle, it won’t grow adequately.

If you do not provide your body with the right nutrients to produce testosterone, it won’t produce a great deal of that either.

Every living tissue requires the nutrients to grow, repair and function.

Just like a regular gas engine car needs fuel, a spark and air to run the engine and turn the wheels, you’re body works on similar principles.

There are literally thousands of natural testosterone boosters available to buy, however, not all natural test boosters are equal.

An effective test booster must include a plethora of proven and natural ingredients for it to be beneficial.

These ingredients can be found in many foods, however, getting the amounts we need every day to maintain optimal testosterone levels can be difficult.

As much as most of us would like to be a professional athlete with the opportunity to eat raw broccoli daily and chicken breast, it is just not as likely to happen with the average 9-5 job and family life.

So, supplements offer a convenient way to get all of the nutrients that we need to ensure we can maintain an optimal natural hormone level that can offer us the benefits of a higher quality of life.

However, it is important to ensure the testosterone booster you are buying contains a plethora or proven ingredients based on studies, not just folk lore or anecdotal evidence passed down gym conversations over the past five decades.

Not all natural testosterone boosters include anti-estrogen compounds, but rather, they prefer to maximize testosterone levels and include more T boosting ingredients to provide a sledge hammer effect at re-addressing that hormone balance.

However, some of the best testosterone boosters do include ingredients that are proven to reduce estrogen levels and increase testosterone.

What’s the science behind natural T-boosters?

If we take the principles just mentioned and elaborate further, there are reputable studies for many ingredients from respected sources that prove natural testosterone levels  can be increased when these ingredients are consumed.

These ingredients are not synthetic, either…

We are talking about vitamins such as Vitamin C or Vitamin D.

Mineral such as Magnesium or Zinc are also proven to stimulate more testosterone, and, studies show that if you are lacking these nutrients, you’re testosterone levels are likely to be low.

What an effective natural testosterone booster does is take a variety of proven ingredients, put them together generally in a pill in the amounts required for the most benefit and provide it to you in a convenient package.

Would you need to take Anavar with a Natural T-Booster?

When you are cycling Anavar or any steroid, you shouldn’t need to stack this with a natural test booster.

A natural test booster stimulates more testosterone production, when you take a steroid it is providing your body with the required androgenic properties to build muscle (amongst other functions) and as a result, your body will ‘shut down’, or rather, just stop producing testosterone due to recognizing that there is an excess in the system.

Therefore, there seems little point trying to stimulate natural test when steroids flood your system with more than you could produce synthetically.

While having these ingredients continually supplemented will certainly benefit your overall health, trying to use them to increase test levels even further will not be necessary.

Now, Anavar is seen as a ‘mild’ androgenic compound, but really, it is only mild compared to other steroids which are many, many more times the strength of testosterone.

As a comparison, Anavar is around three to six times stronger than test. So mild in some respects, but still strong.

As a result, when you finish the cycle of Anavar (or any steroid for that matter), you will require a PCT.

What’s a P.C.T and what has this got to do with Anavar and a test booster?

The first time I tried prohormones I could feel the ‘shut down’ occurring in my testes.

There was a strange feeling and experience that I cannot explain other than a tingling sensation. It was not painful or unpleasant but I had never experienced that sensation before.

This then, was the beginning of a six week period whereby I experienced rapid strength gains that were, in the end, a bit too rapid for my connective tissues and led to tendinitis of my shoulder which was then exacerbated by playing rugby.

So, to shut down is when your body stops producing its own natural source of testosterone to compensate for the massive influx of synthetic steroid hormones your body is processing.

Why do we need a PCT?

When your body is being supplemented with steroids, usually via pills or injections, it is running fine.

Plenty of testosterone to help build muscle and strength, not to mention cutting fat. Everything a guy wants when hitting the gym. Damn, if it is a mild steroid like Anavar, it is what every gym going girl wants too!

However, once you stop taking the drugs your body is still not producing its own testosterone, in fact, for a long while it won’t start producing its own testosterone.

So, a PCT should be taken immediately after your cycle of steroids have finished to kick start your body in to producing its own testosterone again.

Because, once the steroids finish, there’s no T circulating your bloodstream for as long time otherwise, and not only will this effect your hard won gainz, it effects a lot more of your body processes.

I will list these below, but, I can tell you now, that having taken various oral steroids I have felt the full effect of finishing my cycle and still staying ‘shut down’ for some time afterwards.

It is not a great feeling.

However, to give you an idea of what will happen to your body if you have a lack of testosterone circulating your system, checkout the list below:

For men, low testosterone is can cause a number of complications and problems, including:

  • low energy
  • depression
  • impotency
  • lack of libido
  • low sperm count
  • weak bones
  • loss of muscle
  • increased abdominal fat
  • cardiovascular health issues

Yet, there are a few reasons why women would also want to increase their testosterone levels too.

Higher levels of testosterone can be used to treat breast cancer as well as post menopausal symptoms which can include:

  • low sexual desire
  • lack of energy
  • hypoactive sexual disorder

However, it can also be used to combat a few of the more common issues men are wishing to tackle, like muscle strength, fat levels, mood and bone density.

It is also important to note that testosterone is produced by the female body to then create a form of estrogen, called estradiol.

[Bachmann G, Bancroft J, Braunstein G, Burger H, Davis S, Dennerstein L et alFemale androgen insufficiency: the Princeton consensus statement on definition, classification, and assessmentFertil Steril 2002; 77: 660–665.]

Therefore, it is imperative that there is a healthy balance of natural testosterone being produced by the ovaries and adrenal glands in women and the testes in men.

What is included in a PCT?

This is where the waters become muddied slightly…

Essentially, a PCT is there to stimulate your natural testosterone production again and get it back to a healthy and strong level that you had previously to being ‘shut down’ on your cycle.

Sound familiar?

It should do, because in many cases a PCT is nothing more than a natural testosterone booster supplement.

Because, all we really need to do is stimulate your testes to start producing testosterone again.

Is a PCT and natural test booster different?

Essentially not.

They both offer ingredients to stimulate natural testosterone in the body. Essentially, that is all require after a course of steroids has finished.

However, some PCT supplements will include other ingredients such as Milk thistle and N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine.

The former is used to help with liver health and the latter to help improve organ function, however, they are both better being taken at the time of your cycle.

Yet, we have even come across PCT supplements that include Bulbine Natalensis which is as toxic as taking a cycle of steroids and even Epiandrosterone which is a prohormone itself!

Therefore, in order to try and raise testosterone in the user, they have resorted to steroid like ingredients and those that are toxic.

This all seems quite absurd especially if you have just taken a cycle of Anavar that offers no or minimal toxicity.

What should we look for in a natural test booster for a PCT?

With the threat of toxicity found in some marketed PCT supplements we need to find something safe.

Supplements that are marketed as a PCT is essentially a test booster and vice versa.

They both work with the aim to increase and trigger your natural test secretion.

However, with so many differing products on the market, it is best to look for a product that includes nothing more than natural, proven and safe ingredients.

When you are on a course of steroids, and particularly if they are oral steroids it is advisable to also supplement your cycle with Liv.52 which has been shown to help protect the liver.

Milk Thistle has not provided such proven benefits as Liv.52 for liver protection.

However, see below the list of ingredients you should be looking out for when searching for a test booster/PCT.

Supplements including these ingredients provide a convenient, safe and convenient way of optimizing your nutritional intake for healthy bodily and hormone function.

Look for ingredients such as the following:

  • Zinc – Needed for many reactions in the brain and a key component for releasing the luteinzing hormone (LH).

LH is primarily responsible for the production of testosterone and growth hormone. Zinc is found in everyone of our Top 3 T-Boosters

http://www.issaonline.edu/blog/index.cfm/2011/5/1/Supplements-For-Boosting-Testosterone-Levels–Yea-or-Nay-

  • Vitamin K2 – K2 has been shown to help maintain plasma and testes levels of testosterone.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21894328

  • Vitamin B6 – Vitamin B6 helps testosterone levels by stimulating androgen (a steroid hormone that acts as a precursor for testosterone) receptors in your body, making your testes produce testosterone.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6727359

  • Magnesium – Research into magnesium supplementation also increased testosterone production.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20352370

  • D-Aspartic Acid (DAA) – D-aspartic acid is a physiological amino acid occurring principally in the pituitary gland and has a role in the regulation of the release and synthesis of LH and testosterone in humans and rats.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19860889

  • Vitamin D3 – Research by the US Library of Medicine has shown that testosterone productions are increased with Vitamin D3 supplementation.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3712348/

  • Ginseng – Asian red ginseng has been used for centuries to strengthen the immune system, boost energy, and increase longevity.

In studies, ginseng has increased testosterone levels in lab animals.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15982990

  • Oyster Powder – Again, research of this mollusc has shown that is aids your body to increase testosterone.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16648789

  • Fenugreek Seed – It is claimed by researchers that fenugreek works to increase testosterone or androgen levels, which decrease as you age.

http://www.nutraingredients-usa.com/Research/Fenugreek-extract-shows-benefits-for-the-male-menopause-Human-data

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21312304

  • Vitamin C – Widely hailed for its benefits. It can help protect the testes from stress and therefore preserve testosterone levels.

Being an anti-oxidant helps with blood flow too.

https://examine.com/supplements/vitamin-c/

  • Vitamin E – Vitamin E plays an important and vital role in hormone production.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6816576

You should also take in to account your daily eating, exercise and resting habits…

So there’s a number of things we can do to help your body produce as much natural testosterone as possible alongside a supplement.

Okay, so a test booster is best taken after a cycle of Anavar, not with. What else can I do to increase natural T?

Exercise

A healthy exercise regime gets the blood pumping and flowing. It strengthens the heart and your muscles.

With an increased blood flow comes quicker and better distribution of the nutrients your body needs to operate effectively not to mention a quicker and more effective way to transport all of the waste products away that can inhibit function and health.

Then, certain exercises are known to even stimulate more testosterone secretion, so its advisable doing these too, let’s remember, this is a free way to increase your own supply of steroid hormone.

Suggested exercises:

  • Squat
  • Deadlift
  • Overhead (military) press – standing preferable
  • Bench press – all three ranges
  • Bent over rows
  • Pull-ups
Rest

As tempting as it is to stay up until the early hours watching that Netflix box set, please try to resist.

Your body secretes the most amount of growth hormone while you are asleep.

Be sure to get a good amount of sleep each night is going to benefit not only your mental state and your physical shape but also your hormone levels.

Do enough physical exercise and you will want to do nothing more than sleep and take advantage of that increase of testosterone being released.

Nutrition

Take note…

Unhealthy, processed foods can harm hormone levels.

As a man, do you want an excess of abdominal and breast tissue fat? No.

Do you want to lose strength or muscle mass? No.

Do you want weaker bones and cardiovascular issues? No.

These are all possibilities if your testosterone succumbs to a higher level of estrogen, so we need to ensure the balance is restored.

In which case, lets start with foods.

I order to reduce estrogen production, we could do with foods that act as a estrogen regulator.

So, cruciferous vegetables are the order of the day.

Cruciferous vegetables contain DIM, and DIM suppresses too much estrogen getting out of hand.

  • DIM (Diindolylmethane) – Diindolylmethane appears to promote a healthy balance of testosterone in the body and is found in vegetables such as broccoli.

Cruciferous vegetables which contain high levels of DIM such as broccoli are eaten by many professional athletes such as rugby league players for their benefits.

Cruciferous vegetables include:

  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Cabbage
  • Bok Choy
  • Brussels Sprouts

Basically, get lots of leafy greens down you to ensure against an estrogen uprising.

Then you want lots of natural, clean and whole nutritious foods.

Avoid processed foods and those high in saturated fats such as Omega-6 which can trigger diabetes and depression.

Make sure you get lots of meats, nuts, avocados, fish and dairy – including eggs. Not to mention a wide variety of vegetables.

A good place to start, includes the following:

  • Beef
  • Oysters
  • Salmon
  • Asparagus
  • Avocado
  • Kidney beans
  • Turkey
  • Nuts
  • Corn
  • Pumpkin
  • Spinach
  • Eggs
  • Low fat cheese

Also be sure not to drink too much alcohol, smoke or even get on the recreational drug wagon as these can all have reverse effects.

What are the best testosterone booster supplements to use as a PCT after a cycle of Anavar?
