4 GAUGE Pre Workout Review
Does the 4 GAUGE pre workout supplement increase physical performance? We find out…
I know how you are feeling.
What a rigmarole getting up at 5am is to drive to the gym in the cold and rain, or trying to find the motivation not to mention energy to go to the gym after a full day at work.
When we get to the gym there is nothing worse then leaving after an hour or more feeling dissatisfied with your performance.
The obvious step is to hit up a pre workout supplement.
These can help provide your body with the energy, stimulus, focus and power to scrape your sorry ass out of bed and hit the squat rack.
However, as I have learned, not all pre workout supplements are equal, and a lot certainly are not effective.
Things are about to change…
TL:DR – Video Review
Wow! What can you say to this?!
Is this possible the most original packaging for a supplement?
It must be up there with the best.
It was seeing the shot gun cartridge which drew me to the product.
I have not written many reviews of pre workout supplements because, although I really can benefit from them, it can be an additional expense to live with.
I tend to hope that an espresso before driving to work, hitting the gym or playing rugby is suffice.
One of the main reasons is down to the many unnatural additives and coloring’s found in so many of these pre workout formula’s that I look at or even review.
And sometimes, it just feels like you have eaten a whole bag of candy rather than getting any other benefit…
So I was pretty startled to see that 4 Gauge has no artificial additives or flavoring.
I was also taken aback by the comprehensive ingredient profile and the large servings.
Plus, there is no proprietary blend which plagues so many supplements, not just pre workout formula’s.
Things look good on first impressions.
Plus the carton can be re-used to throw in your gym bag to keep keys, boot studs etc all together in one place that is easy to find.
I am even using it in the garage for storing screws and nails. It is the gift that keeps on giving.
*Disclaimer: You can use many tubs for these tasks, but none look quite as cool.
What can a pre workout really do?
The use of a pre workout supplement is traditionally to provide a more explosive and focused workout when you hit the gym.
This is achieved by providing high levels of stimulants to fight fatigue as well as increase the blood flow to the muscles and organs.
They can also include other ingredients that are known to help increase cognitive function so you can effectively zero in on your goal and help smash it.
However, they are no commonly used by students looking to concentrate while stay up late as well as gamer’s and even machine operatives or long distance drivers.
The main key benefits are:
- Increase energy – Smash your workout with more intensity
- Motivation – Get straight out of bed for an early morning gym session
- Improved focus – Zero in on your weights program or even revise harder
- Alert – Stay alert and improve concentration
However, not all pre workout supplements are equal, and some are downright terrible or contain potentially dangerous ingredients in dangerous doses, or concealed doses.
We analyse each one with an in depth review.
4 GAUGE Claims
4 GAUGE claim that their pre workout can help you with the following areas to get the most out of your workout:
- Push harder
- Look bigger and feel better
- Increase focus
Let’s see just how well it can perform…
4 GAUGE Ingredients: The Evidence
– Beta Vulgaris (Beet)
Beet can also increase nitric oxide in the body.
This chemical can dilate blood vessels and was popular with athletes at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Sodium is vital for proper muscle and all over body functions. When you sweat you lose vital salts, so this will help replace them.
– Coconut Water Powder
A 2007 study shows coconut water enhanced with sodium was as good as drinking a commercial sports drink for post-exercise rehydration with better fluid tolerance.
– Caffeine Anhydrous
The purest form of caffeine available.
It stimulates the central nervous system (CNS), heart, muscles, and the centers that control blood pressure to give you an extra boost and hit that PB.
Acetyl-L-carnitine helps the body produce energy. It is important for heart and brain function, muscle movement, and many other body processes.
This is used as a sports performance and cardiovascular health supplement. L-Citrulline supplementation results in reduced fatigue and improved endurance for both aerobic and anaerobic prolonged exercise.
An increase in growth hormone has been noted with exercise, but not at rest.
L-citrulline boosts nitric oxide production in the body. Nitric oxide helps your arteries relax and work better, which improves blood flow throughout your body.
– Creatine Monohydrate
It is the simplest form and most popular of Creatine.
It is an extremely fine powder that can be mixed in water for a high absorption rate.
There are many alternative forms of creatine, however, none are more effective than the basic creatine monohydrate.
Supplementation increases creatine storage and promotes a faster regeneration of adenosine triphosphate between high intensity exercises.
There’s studies relating to how creatine can increase testosterone.
These improved outcomes will increase performance and promote greater training adaptations.
– Rhodiola Rosea
Results show that training results in increased testosterone levels in athletes and that the increase is greater if accompanied by calcium supplementation.
Potassium levels change with sodium levels to keep muscles working properly throughout your body, especially your heart.
If you are low on Potassium you can start to feel your muscles cramp.
4 GAUGE Servings
2 scoops with water which weighs in at a colossal 14g!
This is much more than many of the pre workout supplements we test out!
The taste is nice and sour. I love it.
4 GAUGE Pre Workout Price
$45. In the UK it is an astonishing £20! That is very competitive.
There are multi-buy offers available to make each unit cheaper.
There’s none of those recurring charges either that some companies manage to swing by under the radar meaning you are billed each month and an automatic supply is sent to your door.
This must be one of the few pre workouts without Beta-Alanine.
That is good, because Beta-Alanine is not proven to have any positive effect on perfromance.
As already mentioned, it is great to find a pre workout supplement that is free from any artificial additives or flavors.
It is also good to find one that is so generous with its overall ingredients and dose.
Every single ingredient has a role to play in helping you with increasing performance; be that in the gym, on the bike, playing sport, gaming or even when you are about to complete a monster drive home from work after doing a late shift.
I personally found 4 GAUGE to be a great supplement to take just before I play rugby.
In fact, the first time I took this took me a little by surprise…
I have taken many different supplements beforehand, a few that maybe described as ‘under the counter’ types over the years as well. So I felt like this would be a walk in the park…
Let me set the scene. We were playing against a team that are top of the league. At their ground, so a good hour or so drive from home.
We are all in the changing rooms feeling a bit grouchy and lackadaisical.
To make matters worse, someone had brought along the children’s rugby kit we needed to wear!
To put it mildly, we were in disarray. Someone had to quickly rush over 15 adult sized shirts from over 60 miles away, very quickly.
We ended up running on to the pitch half pulling our shirts on. Things looked bleak.
However, while in the changing rooms, looking at all of the downbeat faces I took a serving of this pre workout – initially it is quite a sour flavor but agreeable and not at all unpleasant.
After a short while I noticed tingling in my fingers and my legs were just twitching constantly and I was basically foaming at the mouth, eager to get on the pitch.
When we did, I was, to quote the opposition, ‘Like a rabid animal’.
I gave them hell. I was all over the pitch, putting in massive tackles and going on destructive runs.
My opposite number barely came near me and their fly half was too scared to take the ball, knowing full well I was on him ans smashing him to the floor regardless.
I had never experiences anything like it…
80 minutes later, once the game had finished, we had to concede a massive defeat. It was embarrassing. Especially considering there was a large supporting crowd.
However, in the clubhouse while eating post match food and having a few beers the opposition picked a man of the match. They picked me.
My reward? Drink a pint of beer in one on a stool. I managed to pull that off a bit more convincingly as well.
That was the first, and by no means the last time I used 4 Gauge.
Before a rugby game I always take 2 scoops and go out hunting on the pitch.
It helps me focus, block out any distractions and provide me with the energy and kick up the ass required to run around making solid hits for 80 minutes.
It is also useful when I am up all night on my Xbox playing CoD or working late helping me focus, stay alert and focus.
Often if I am in the office until 10pm and faced with a 1 hour 30 minute drive home I will have just one scoop so I do not fall asleep hurtling down the freeway at 90.
I am also in the Army Reserves. And, we meet every Wednesday evening for physical training which is a lot of circuit training and very intense.
The problem is that heading over after a full day of work can be a struggle.
I am tired, a bit exhausted and if I cycle over I feel like I have already completed a workout session.
So I really need something to motivate me and give me a jolt of energy before we slog it out in the drill hall.
I have previously used other pre workout supplements and in some cases they are fine, but quite a few make me feel a bit bloated which can then take my focus away from the task in hand.
However, 4 GAUGE doesn’t make me feel bloated at all, it is very light on the stomach and just lets me crack on with the fitness drills and perform to my best.
It’s priced remarkably well too with great multi buy offers so it means you don’t feel you can only dig it out of your gym bag on those special days you are looking to hit a PR.
If you are sensitive to caffeine, this may lead to a scenario that feels like a punch to the face. It is strong and the ‘buzz’ lasts for a long amount of time.
This is an extremely potent supplement!
The tingling in the extremities may also worry and take some people by surprise, but do not be alarmed this is safe and normal.
The movement of arms and legs as you are rushing on energy may also alarm some users, however, I personally loved it.
That said, if you take this and then do not do some form of exercise it may be a bit too much to handle.
The flavor is quite sour and may also be a bit ‘sharp’. Just think of the fizzy and sour gummy candies you can get – it is a bit like that.
Again, for me that adds to the experience. The sourness of 4 GAUGE almost prepares you for what is coming next.
If it was just vanilla flavored the whole experience may seem extremely odd and disjointed.
It can only be bought direct from the manufacturer and online which could be annoying for some, don’t expect to find it in your local GNC or Walmart.
My 4 GAUGE Pre Workout Review Conclusion
Is 4 GAUGE the best pre workout?
Personally, for me, this is the most complete and best pre workout I have used to date.
I remember using BSN’s N.O Xplode many years ago, but nothing has given me the vascularity, energy, focus, endurance and downright explosive power than this has.
I think the rabid dog comment speaks for itself.
It may be too strong for some, but for me it works perfectly, so if you play contact sports, online gaming, driving long distances or just love a hard workout in the gym this is the right pre work out supplement for you.
Best of all? You get a great container to store things in when you’ve finished!
Hear what other’s have said about 4 GAUGE…
There’s quite a bit of positive noise coming from around the world about 4GAUGE, and for good reason.
There’s quite simply so many other sub-par pre workout supplements that do not deliver which is frustrating.
The difference between pre workout supplements and products like fat burners or test boosters is that we know within about 20 minutes if a pre workout is effective or not, whereby the effects for other products are gained and witnessed over a much longer period of time.
As a result, I have bought many sample sachets of various pre workout products to see what works and what doesn’t.
You would be surprised by the results, there’s a lot of terrible pre workout supplements out there on the market which baffles me seeing as almost immediately you can tell a shit supplement from a good one.
