Australian Navy Sailor’s Steroid Death
As part of the growing trend with steroid misuse, i.e when it is not prescribed by a medical professional, it seems there has been another victim who may have bought steroids and other bodybuilding supplements when on shore in Oman.
The sailor, as part of operation Manitou, was on shore after the HMAS Darwin had docked in Muscat.
The 22 year old was found unconscious in his hotel room by colleagues who failed to resuscitate him.
As we reported previously, people may become victims of a heart condition they may not be aware of known as arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC). Taking anabolic steroids can lead to abnormal electrical signals and change in the muscular structure. This then can lead to a stroke in somebody that seems to be completely fit and healthy.
There was a recent case in the UK of a healthy 48 year old who suffered the same fate.
