Azerbaijan To Appeal Over Doping Ban

In light of the recent doping scandal including the high profile athletes from Russia and the Olympic committee banning Russia to compete, it seems that the drama has not ended there.

Since Azerbaijan have had 2 of their Olympic weightlifting medals stripped, they plan to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport regardless of the doping finds.

This is following six of the team failing a drug tests at the world championships which were held last year. As a result, the International Weightlifting Federation took away 2 Olympic quota places from the country.

Unintimidated, the Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation are determined to find a positive result at the international tribunal by hiring foreign lawyers to plan an appeal.

Let’s not withstand the fact that 2 Azeri weightlifters named as Boyanka Kostova and Intigam Zairov are facing bans due to a retesting of their samples which were obtained from prior Olympic Games and came up positive for steroids. It is important to add that the latter is already banned until 2013 for a previous doping find.
