BSN Ripped Edge Fat Burner Review
BSN Ripped Edge Fat Burner
First Look:
This fat burner fits the corporate image and face of BSN.
All products look similar with the color scheme and labeling, they’ve been around for a good while too.
It works well and inspires confidence in the customer who may well not be too well rehearsed when buying a fat burner or even supplements in general.
It’s like when you go to a foreign country for the first time and hunger strikes – lots of people panic and rush into somewhere like McDonald’s because they recognize the brand…even if there are much better alternatives available.
Ingredients:
Toothed Clubmoss (Devil’s Ash, Devil’s Claw, Ground Pine) – Traditionally used for memory improvement and cognition.

L-carnitine – Acetyl-L-carnitine helps the body produce energy.
It is important for heart and brain function, muscle movement, and many other body processes.
It is a very popular supplement and widely proven to be active drugs for the therapy of symptoms associated with male aging.
Any fat loss tends to be associated with the extra energy provided by this compound which in turn increases exercise.
However, any other real fat reduction seems to be limited to elderly people. Although L-carnitine has been marketed as a weight loss supplement, scientific evidence is lacking.

Cognizin (citicoline) – Studies have shown that it can have beneficial effects both in degenerative and in vascular cognitive decline.

Green Tea – well known to have many powerful health benefits.
Clinical studies suggest that green tea extract may boost metabolism and help burn fat.
One study found that the combination of green tea and caffeine improved weight loss and maintenance in people who were overweight and moderately obese.
Some researchers think that substances in green tea known as catechins are responsible for the herb’s fat-burning effect.
BioPerine (Piper nigrum) – The extract of piperine, called BioPerine® in the patented form, has been clinically tested in the United States. BioPerine® significantly enhances the bioavailability of various supplement nutrients through increased absorption.

Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5) – One of 8 B vitamins.
All B vitamins help the body convert food (carbohydrates) into fuel (glucose), which the body uses to produce energy.
These B vitamins, often referred to as B complex vitamins, also help the body use fats and protein.
B complex vitamins are needed for healthy skin, hair, eyes, and liver.
They also help the nervous system function properly and is critical to the manufacture of red blood cells.

Capsicum – Capsaicin is known to boost metabolism, causing the body to produce extra heat and burn more calories for fuel. This is found in our favorite fat burner Instant Knockout.

Thiamin (Vitamin B1) – Helps the body’s cells change carbohydrates into energy. The main role of carbohydrates is to provide energy for the body, especially the brain and nervous system.

Vitamin B6 – Using it in its most natural form, pyridoxine, B6 is an essential nutrient to raising the body’s metabolism and aiding the fat burning process.

Niacin – Higher amounts of niacin can improve cholesterol levels and lower cardiovascular risks. However, the jury is out on these real benefits.

Yohimbe – Related to Yohimbine, Yohimbe is a powerful stimulant and used to increase fat loss as well as assist with erectile dysfunction.
Can cause a host of other problems though, this is in out supplements to avoid list.
Supplementation with yohimbine combined with resistance training does not significantly alter the body mass, muscle mass, or performance indicators.

Caffeine – Caffeine intake is associated with weight loss through thermogenesis and fat oxidation.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16076989
6, 7, dihydroxybergamottin (DHB, Grapefruit) – Fat mass appears to be reduced more in groups consuming grapefruit relative to placebo.

Bitter Orange (Citrus Aurantium) – At present, Citrus aurantium may be the best thermogenic substitute for ephedra. However, more studies are needed to establish this definitively.
Bitter orange is possibly unsafe when taken as a supplement for a medical purpose such as weight loss.
Bitter orange, particularly when taken with stimulants such as caffeine or caffeine-containing herbs, increases the risk for high blood pressure, fainting, heart attack, stroke, and other severe side effects.
There are reports that bitter orange can trigger headaches, including migraine and cluster headaches, in some people.
Bitter orange can cause sensitivity to the sun. Wear sunblock outside, especially if you are light-skinned.

Dose:
There’s a 2 pill per day dose as per the instructions. We are served a woeful 865.01mg of ingredients per day.
A dose of (4) pills spread out evenly across the day is recommended to ensure a steady trickle of nutrients for your body to work with and is found with the best fat burners on the market.
Effects:
We are presented with 7 effective fat burning ingredients from a list of 16 which begs the question, what the fuck are the rest doing?
That is less than a 50% success rate. Could you imagine if these were hospital statistics?
However, those that are effective and included are good, well regarded ingredients that are found in the best fat burner’s on the market today.
It is refreshing to see that the ingredient profile is available for all to see and not hidden within a proprietary blend.
Negatives:
Having more than 50% of the product consisting of ingredients that are either not safe or conclusively effective is not a good sign nor does it give me much confidence in the product.
It is poor judgement by BSN to include 2 ingredients that are well known for their potential harsh side effects.
The recommendation to only take 2 pills which offers a pitiful 865.01mg of combined ingredients is not going to offer the best chance of effectiveness either especially with this poor profile.
BSN Ripped Edge Fat Burner Conclusion:
This offers far less than the best fat burners on the market, be it actual effective, proven ingredients plus the mass of the serving and the daily dose.
Not only that there are 2 potentially harmful ingredients included when they are not a prerequisite for a beneficial fat burner.
As already mentioned there is comfort in buying something That is familiar.
However, if you went to France and just ate KFC you really are missing out on the good stuff.
Why buy this if you can buy an alternative proven product?
