I need a testosterone booster to help me increase my gym performance and sustain my other physical activities.

Not to mention my constant work to do.

So with the gym looming this afternoon, I want to see what the best testosterone booster on the market is.

Luckily there are plenty to choose from.

This stood out because t is called Alpha Male.

Obviously every guy wants to be the alpha. So this seems like the obvious choice.

However, it does not stick out from the shelf, it is the usual black, red and white combo.

Nothing new there then.

Who are High Mark Nutrition?

There’s not a great deal on information regarding High Mark Nutrition.

They have a Facebook page, but even that is lacking information.

I could not find their website, so this seems like a small operation.

What Are the claims for Alpha Male?

High Mark Nutrition claim that their testosterone booster called Alpha Male can do the following:

  • Increase focus
  • Improve energy levels
  • Re-ignite libido
  • Build mucle
  • Gain strength
  • Decrease body fat

So, let’s list through each ingredient and look at the associated studies:

– Magnesium

Research into magnesium supplementation demonstrated an increase of natural testosterone production in men.

It can also help aid sleep for improved mental rest and muscle recovery.

Men who took magnesium had the biggest increase in total and free testosterone, another showed that a magnesium supplemented group had significantly greater gains in strength.

– Zinc

Needed for many reactions in the brain and a key component for releasing the luteinzing hormone (LH).

LH is primarily responsible for the production of testosterone and growth hormone.

The fact that it’s in here is great, there’s plenty of studies proving its worth.

Science has demonstrated that those people who exercise regularly and intensely are more likely to have an insufficient level of Zinc.

– Eurycoma Longifolia (Longjack, Tongkat Ali)

There are some claims that Longjack will increase testosterone levels.

Yet, there is very little evidence surrounding the claims.

There’s no human studies available proving that Longjack is effective when taken orally.

However, the most positive outcome from studies of Tongkat Ali is that it can help reduce day-to-day stress.

– Tribulus Terrestris

The many tests on Tribulus have found no increases in testosterone levels.

It has failed to increase natural testosterone levels. Research shows that it does not increase physical performance.

It can also be dangerous for women to use.

– Saw Palmetto

Saw Palmetto has no evidence that it can increase testosterone.

When it was tested to establish how it may effect sexual arousal and desire the results were negative.

Therefore Saw Palmetto has no positive effect on either testosterone levels or sexual desire regardless of manufacturer claims.

There are also warnings regarding its safety for the liver and pancreas.

Do not take if you are pregnant or breastfeeding as it can be unsafe. [4]

– Horny Goat Weed

Evidence would dictate that Horny Goat Weed does have a positive effect on male erectile dysfunction.

However, in studies it also seemed to lower testosterone levels.

Horny Goat Weed’s strength seems to lay in its ability to help nervous tissue grow and develop rather than having any effect on hormone levels.

This would suggest that any test boosters including Horny Goat Weed is merely mimicking the effects of higher testosterone levels by helping with erections.

This is because morning erections in men are a sign of healthy testosterone levels. [5]

– Chrysin

Laboratory research suggests that chrysin might increase testosterone, but research in humans hasn’t found any effect on testosterone levels.

The amount of Chrysin that is absorbed from the intestine may be very small, which would make the effects unlikely.

Research seems to suggest that even massive does of Chrysin in the region of 400 – 3000mg do not have any effect.

On a plus note, there seems to be very little risk with taking Chrysin. [6] [7]

– Cissus quadrangularis

Cissus may help improve joint and bone health.

There are some very questionable studies available noting improved fracture healing.

A theory that testosterone can be increased has yet to be confirmed. [8]

– Hawthorn (Crataegus pinnatifida)

There are no official scientific human studies available for Hawthorn. That is not the most promising news.

It does appear in some heart failure ingredients with the theory that it can improve heart failure symptoms.

However, there’s signs that it can actually worsen symptoms for those suffering from heart failure.

This can lead to death.

Thus, we have no idea how it may effect hormone production.

How To Take Alpha Male

We are to take three capsules per day.

Higher Mark Nutrition also advise us to take them before bedtime.

We would advise that it is better to spread the dose out over the course of the day.

This ensures our body has a constant supply of nutrients to work with.

This will prevent peaks and troughs.

If you supply your body with lots of the same nutrients at once it will pass what is not required.

Thus, a higher chance of waste and less benefits.

It is better to have a continued trickle effect.

Alpha Male Dosage

A daily dose is 1305mg per three caps.

This dose is less than 50% of what you would find in the best natural testosterone boosters which will consist of around 3000mg or more.

Things don’t look right.

There’s only two ingredients here that are directly responsible for increasing testosterone levels.

If you are deficient in Zinc and Magnesium you will probably be low on testosterone according to the studies.

Longjack can help reduce day-to-day stress which is beneficial as too much stress prevents and reduces natural testosterone production.


The daily dose is low.

Much lower than many other natural testosterone boosters which are proven to work.

There’s also a lack of proven ingredients that are known to increase testosterone levels.

Alpha Male contains all of the same generic ingredients that we see in many testosterone supplements yet they are unproven.

This is nothing more than a label swap with a different name.

There are at least six further ingredients that have no benefit whatsoever to increase test levels.

There’s a few unwanted side effects.

let’s run through the possible issues you can face by taking this supplement.

Horny Goat Weed can cause thirst, nosebleeds and dizziness.

Saw Palmetto may cause liver and pancreas problems. Yet this is not yet for definite.

Cissus may lower blood sugar levels. This could cause health problems for people who suffer from diabetes.

Tribulus may cause fetal development issues and could be harmful to woman who are breast feeding.

After taking a look through some of the buyer testimonials it seems there is a fair bit of backlash regarding its effectiveness.

Many people have stated that it does not work and there were no effects.
