My Nutrend N1 Pre Workout Review First Look:

I have not had the chance recently to properly hit the weights.

Working on my house has taken precedence and considering it is getting cold and Christmas is on its way I want to get as much completed as possible.

That does mean I have not been in to my home gym for what seems like two weeks when it is actually closer to just the one week

I have also been over to Poland this weekend and keeping up with my love of buying old cars on the cheap I have just bought a 98 Toyota Camry…

Eitherway, lifting some heavy ass weights has been long overdue, and after spending much of the weekend in bed do feel particularly lazy, that said I did cycle in to work today which was freezing cold on the legs.

So keen to go subterranean in my house and get back in to the swing of things I wanted a pre workout I could rely on to kick me up the ass for deadlifts and bench press.

Vitamin C – Widely hailed for its benefits. It can help protect the testes from stress and therefore preserve testosterone levels.

Being an anti-oxidant helps with blood flow too.

Salt (sodium) – An essential mineral; its consumption is critical to our health. However, Americans plus a lot of Western countries do consume double the recommended daily intake.

Excess sodium may not raise blood pressure, but it is associated with other health issues, such as kidney damage and an increased risk of cognitive decline.

Caffeine – It stimulates the central nervous system (CNS), heart, muscles, and the centers that control blood pressure to give you an extra boost and hit that PB.

Caffeine Anhydrous is the purest form of caffeine so always look out for it.

This is found in 4 Gauge which is the best pre-workout.

It is also found in Instant Knockout which is the best fat burner available at present.

Arginine-alpha-ketoglutarate (AAKG) – Tests on supplementation draw no real benefit that would not be found from resistance training itself.

Beta-alanine  – Supplementation of this non essential amino acid aids the production of carnosine. That’s a compound that plays a role in muscle endurance in high-intensity exercise.

That said, studies have not exactly been positive nor entirely conclusive.

L-Citrulline – This is used as a sports performance and cardiovascular health supplement. L-Citrulline supplementation results in reduced fatigue and improved endurance for both aerobic and anaerobic prolonged exercise.

An increase in growth hormone has been noted with exercise, but not at rest.

L-citrulline boosts nitric oxide production in the body. Nitric oxide helps your arteries relax and work better, which improves blood flow throughout your body.

Supplementing can help lower blood pressure in people with pre-hypertension.

This is often found in the best pre workouts.

To supplement L-citrulline to enhance sports performance, take 6,000 – 8,000 mg of citrulline malate about an hour before exercise.

Vitamin B6 – Vitamin B6 helps testosterone levels by stimulating androgen (a steroid hormone that acts as a precursor for testosterone) receptors in your body, making your testes produce testosterone.

Niacinamide (Vit B3) –  Higher amounts of niacin can improve cholesterol levels and lower cardiovascular risks and maybe symptoms for Alzheimer’s . However, the jury is out on these real benefits.

Calcium – Results show that training results in increased testosterone levels in athletes and that the increase is greater if accompanied by calcium supplementation.

However, calcium supplements are also known to increase artery plaque which in the long term can cause cardiovascular problems.

L-Tyrosine – Tyrosine is taken for depression, attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), the inability to stay awake (narcolepsy), and improving alertness following sleep deprivation.

It is also used for stress, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, chronic fatigue syndrome(CFS).

Dimethylaminoethanol DMAE – This compound can help with cognitive impairment, however, results from studies are a bit patchy. This is not classified for use as a food additive in the USA. Has been marketed as DEANOL.

Thiamine (Vitamin B1) – Thiamine is required by our bodies to properly use carbohydrates.

Some research suggests that taking thiamine together with pantethine and pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) does not improve muscle strength or endurance in athletes.

Black Pepper / Piper Nigrum (BioPerine) – The extract of piperine, called BioPerine®  in the patented form, has been clinically tested in the United States.

BioPerine®  significantly enhances the bioavailability of various supplement nutrients through increased absorption.


17,000mg of ingredients in a powder to be mixed with water.

This compares very well to many of the best pre workout supplements which will offer over 15,000mg.

The flavor was blackcurrant. It was okay, but also the sensation was a bit odd.

Benefits & Effects:

This offers a full fifteen ingredients, that is much more than some.

However, only around half of these ingredients are proven to be useful

These that are beneficial are:

  • Vitamin C – Helps blood flow
  • Sodium – Replaces essential lost salts through perspiration.
  • Caffeine – Stimulates the central nervous system
  • Tyrosine – Improves alertness
  • Calcium – Can increase testosterone levels
  • B6 – Stimulates testosterone production
  • Citrulline – Increases growth hormone boosts nitric oxide

These ingredients feature in some of the best pre workout supplements available on the market.

That’s because they have proven abilities to benefit your performance.

How Did It Feel?

I didn’t feel any increased performance I am afraid.

However, when I drank it it sort of felt like it was taking my breath away, but not like an incredibly beautiful woman, in a way that left me wondering if I had left some chemicals in my supplement shaker and hadn’t washed it out.



Of the fifteen ingredients it is disappointing to only see that several can offer some benefit.

Then, we actually have some problems with some of the ingredients that are proven to be beneficial…

  • Sodium – Okay, if you are sweating loads this is going to help, but if you are not then this is just going to add more sodium to your diet that you most likely do not need
  • Citrulline – We need 6000mg for this to offer any positive benefits and this supplement only provides 2250mg
  • Creatine – Again we need around 5000mg per day and this is under dosed
  • Calcium – Depending on what other supplements you take, but if you supplement with Calcium daily this could prove a hazard to your health on the long term

So just bear in mid these issues when also considering the other eight ingredients that will not help towards improving your performance.

My Nutrend N1 Pre Workout Review Conclusion:

This pre workout only consists of several effective and proven ingredients from a total of fifteen.

Yet, even then, four of those several can cause complications or are not dosed high enough to be truly beneficial to your chosen sport.

It also omits many proven ingredients that are present in many of the best pre workout supplements.

This was absolutely clear when I tested it for my gym session I felt no effects at all. Absolutely nothing.

Yet, while drinking it it was almost like drinking bleach…

Due to the limited effects,the fact that it is missing the following ingredients and not being dosed adequately I would not suggest that you bother with this pre workout when there’s alternatives available:

  • Coconut water
  • Potassium
  • Theanine
  • Rhodiola
  • Beet
  • Carnitine

There is a better product than this that will get you fired up and cause hell in your chosen sport.
